Facebook rolled out a fantasy gaming service for iOS and Android users in the U.S. and Canada this week. Facebook Fantasy Games lets you predict outcomes of sports events and other entertainment, like TV game shows.

The social media giant said the games are designed to be easy for beginners to play, but are “still engaging enough for more seasoned players.”

Facebook Fantasy Games: Sports first, pop culture later

Its first offering is Pick & Play Sports. In the game, you score points if you accurately predict a game’s winner. You can also score by predicting the top player’s score or guessing particular occurrences that will take place in the match.

Facebook said other games will follow this fall. They will be linked to TV shows like Survivor on CBS and The Bachelorette on ABC, as well as sport leagues, such as Major League Baseball.

Compete with friends and other fans

And, as you might expect from a social media platform, you can create public or private fantasy leagues so you can play against other people.

“These games bring the social fun of traditional fantasy sports to simpler formats that are easy to play for people new to prediction games, while still engaging enough for more seasoned players,” said Daniel Fletcher, Facebook’s product manager for entertainment.

Only via web app

As Cult of Mac has noted before, Apple’s rules against game streaming services keep them out of the App Store. Companies like Facebook can only offer them as web apps.
