Broadway on your TV

For those who somehow haven’t heard of one of the most popular musicals of the last decade, Come from Away tells the story of some 7,000 people stranded in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland after all flights into the U.S. are grounded on September 11, 2001. As the locals graciously welcome the “come from aways” into their community, everyone must process what’s happened even as they find love, laughter and new hope.

Ashley took home the only Tony for directing the show, but the it was nominated for six more, including Best Musical, Best Original Score and Best Book.

The Apple TV+ performance of “Come From Away” was filmed in May 2021 at the same Broadway theater where it had been staged. The audience included 9/11 survivors and front-line workers.

Jenn Colella, who was nominated for a Tony for the original production, returns as Beverley/Annette. Other original or Broadway cast members returning for this version include Petrina Bromley as Bonnie, Joel Hatch as Claude, Caesar Samayoa as Kevin J./Ali and many more.

Come from Away premieres on Apple TV+ next month

Watching this production will require a $4.99-a-month subscription to Apple’s streaming video service. But of course Apple TV+ offers much more. Music fans can take in Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry,
Watch the Sound With Mark Ronson, and Bruce Springsteen’s Letter to You.

Plus there are plenty more series and films, including thrillers, crime dramas, comedies, sci-fi and more.
