Razer is known for aggressively designed, gaming-friendly gear, but its new Opus X active noise cancelling (ANC), over-ear Bluetooth headphones appear to be aimed at least in part at mainstream consumers.

The comparatively minimalist headphones offer an accessible price point and some desirable features.

Sibling headphones: Opus X follows Opus

Released in June, the Opus X cans follow last year’s release of the Opus, Razer’s first over-ear headphones with ANC. Opus headphones go for $200. At $99, Opus X keeps ANC technology, loses THX-certification and costs half as much as the original Opus.

Low latency but no wired use

What’s more, Razer said it minimized latency in the Opus X, bringing it down to 60 ms in gaming mode. That’s an improvement over the pricier Opus.

And that lower latency may be crucial for gamers using these cans. Razer did not include a 3.5mm audio input jack. Wired audio helps with latency, but not with the Opus X. They’re Bluetooth only.

Comfortable fit

Opus X headphones are optimized for ergonomics, featuring an adjustable leatherette headstrap and ear cups that can swivel and tilt for comfort.

Razer said a full charge of the Opux X battery via a USB-C port in the right cup can last up to 30 hours with ANC on and 40 hours with it off.

The headphones, which include microphones for voice communication, come in green, pink and white colors.
