You may be used to simply recording audio on your mobile device for those endless cat-video voiceovers of yours. But if you want clearer, more-focused audio for your content creation, a small microphone like Sennheiser’s new XS Lavmic will usually do a better job.

Just clip it on, connect it to your iPhone or other mobile device, and viola — you will instantly start sounding like you know what you’re doing. You can count yourself more of a pro in podcasting, voice-overs, interviewing or vlogging.

Sennheiser XL Lavmic: more focused sound

The omni-directional clip-on Sennheiser XS Lavmic delivers clear and natural sound. By placing it closer to the source you want to record — usually your mouth — you get much less environmental noise than you would with a hand-hand recording device.

And because the mic is clipped to your lapel or collar, the sound quality remains more constant than it would with a hand-held device. That remains true even if you’re moving around. That cat’s not just going to sit there.

Ease of use

A great thing about a clip-on mic like the XS Lav is the hassle-free use, whether you’re on the go with your iPhone or recording a podcast on your MacBook Pro.

Your smartphone or computer will power the microphone and automatically switch from the internal mic. All you need is to plug the cable into your device and record.

A standard USB-C to USB-A adapter will make your XS Lav ready for legacy products, too.

In the package

Along with the mic, you’ll get a mic clip, windscreen and storage pouch, plus a 6.5-foot cable. Sold separately, you can  get  XS Lav USB-C Mobile Kit, which includes the USB-C XL Lavmic, a Manfrotto Pixi Mini Tripod and a Sennheiser Smartphone Clamp.

The XS Lav with USB-C connector is currently the top new release in vocal condenser mics on Amazon, at $59.95.
