Peabody Award nominations went out Tuesday to Apple comedy series Ted Lasso as well as the children’s program Stillwater.

The annual Peabodys honor excellence in broadcasting the same way Pulitzers recognize outstanding journalism. The awards “reflect the pressing social issues and the vibrant emerging voices of our day,” according to the National Association of Broadcasters.

The two Apple shows were among 60 nominated Tuesday after being broadcast in 2020. They were selected out of more than 1,300 entries.

The Peabody organization said Apple’s Ted Lasso offers “radical optimism” and “anti-male-toxicity.” The show follows a haplessly optimistic American football coach (played by Jason Sudeikis) who is recruited to lead an English soccer team. The results are both hilarious and oddly uplifting.

The Peabodys also highlighted Stillwater’s commitment to teaching children mindfulness. The show is about a wise panda who give kids a deeper understanding of their feelings as well as tools that help them face their own day-to-day challenges.

The organization will announce winners of the awards in June during a virtual event.

Apple TV+ pulls in plenty of awards

Tuesday’s two nominations follow last year’s Peabody Award win for the Apple Original comedy series Dickinson, a fanciful reimagining of the life of poet Emily Dickinson.

And this is only the latest accolade for Ted Lasso. Since debuting in summer 2020, it received Screen Actors Guild Awards, Critics Choice Awards, Writers Guild Awards, Golden Globes and AFI Television Program of the Year.

The complete first season ofTed Lasso is available for Apple TV+ subscribers to enjoy now. The same goes for Stillwater. Watching costs $4.99 a month.
