Apple TV+’s Wolfwalkers received a whopping ten nominations for the 48th Annie Awards, which celebrate excellence in animation. That put it in a tie for most nominations with Pixar’s Soul.
Wolfwalkers also scored a Golden Globe nomination, and is widely expected to be nominated for an Oscar later in March.
Wolfwalkers hunted up plenty of Annie nominations
The Apple TV+ animated film, which debuted fall of 2020, was nominated for the Best Indie Feature in the Annie Awards. It also got nominations for Best Writing, Best Character Design, Best FX, Best Direction, Best Music, Best Voice Acting and several more.

Take a walk on the wild side
Wolfwalkers portrays the struggle between religious townspeople and magical forest dwellers. Apple says:
“In a time of superstition and magic, a young apprentice hunter, Robyn Goodfellowe, journeys to Ireland with her father to wipe out the last wolf pack. While exploring the forbidden lands outside the city walls, Robyn befriends a free-spirited girl, Mebh, a member of a mysterious tribe rumored to have the ability to transform into wolves by night. As they search for Mebh’s missing mother, Robyn uncovers a secret that draws her further into the enchanted world of the Wolfwalkers and risks turning into the very thing her father is tasked to destroy.”
Its production company is Cartoon Saloon, known for both gorgeous animation and gripping plots. The studio also created The Secret of Kells that was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2010. Its next project, Song of the Sea, was nominated for an Academy Award in the same category in 2015. This is why many are expecting Wolfwalkers to score its own Oscar nomination.
The Cult of Mac review called it “the best animated film of the year.” It’s available to watch now on Apple’s streaming video service.
One more Apple TV+ Annie nomination
The IAFA also nominated an episode of Apple’s Stillwater for the Annie in the Best TV/Media – Preschool category. This show is about a panda who teaches life lessons to small children.
