Netflix added a new wrinkle to suggesting new shows for its viewers. Its app can go ahead and download recommended shows onto your handset before you even know about them so they’re ready to watch.
The new feature is called Downloads for You. “Whether you’re a comedy fan stuck on a long car ride or a rom com lover without internet, we do the work so there is always something new waiting to entertain and delight you,” said Patrick Flemming, Netflix’s director of Product Innovation, in a blog post.

Suppose you’re a fan of Firefly Lane. If you’re all caught up, Netflix thinks you should try Malcolm and Marie and your app can download the first episode onto your phone without you having to do anything.
Don’t be concerned that these shows will devour all the space on your iPhone. For one thing, Downloads for You is optional, and turned off by default. Also, users can devote 1GB, 3GB or 5GB of storage to the shows.

The feature debuted today on Android devices, and testing for iOS devices will begin soon, according to Netflix.
The new Downloads for You option goes beyond Netflix Smart Downloads. That’s been available since 2018, and can be set to automatically download the next episodes of your favorite shows.
