Wolfwalkers is third in a series. Sort of.
Wolfwalkers portrays the struggle between religious townspeople and magical forest dwellers. Apple says:
“In a time of superstition and magic, a young apprentice hunter, Robyn Goodfellowe, journeys to Ireland with her father to wipe out the last wolf pack. While exploring the forbidden lands outside the city walls, Robyn befriends a free-spirited girl, Mebh, a member of a mysterious tribe rumored to have the ability to transform into wolves by night. As they search for Mebh’s missing mother, Robyn uncovers a secret that draws her further into the enchanted world of the Wolfwalkers and risks turning into the very thing her father is tasked to destroy.”
Its production company is Cartoon Saloon, known for both gorgeous animation and gripping plots. The studio also created The Secret of Kells that was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2010. Its next project, Song of the Sea, was nominated for an Academy Award in the same category in 2015.
Wolfwalkers hits Apple TV+ on Friday, December 11, but a limited theatrical release is coming before then.
Apple TV+ costs $4.99 a month, and there are no commercials. Subscribers can watched on Mac, iPad and iPhone, of course, but also on smart TV platforms. Other children’s programs already available on the streaming service include Ghostwriter and Helpsters.
