Apple gave developers access to the final pre-release versions of iOS 14.1 and iPadOS 14.1 on Tuesday. This is an important last step before releasing these upgrades to the public.
However, we don’t yet know when they’ll be available for iPhone and iPad.
But there is a cutoff of sorts. iOS 14.1 is expected to debut on the newly-announced iPhone 12, which is scheduled to launch October 23.
And iPadOS 14.1 is likely to debut on the iPad Air 4, though this tablet doesn’t yet have a launch date. It’s supposed to be out before the end of October, however.
This is actually the first anyone outside of Apple has seen of these versions. It skipped straight to beta testing iOS 14.2 and the iPad equivalent.
Looking ahead
Speaking of which, Apple also gave developers access to the third beta of iOS 14.2 and iPadOS 14.2 on Tuesday. As mentioned, in a slightly unusual situation, this version is already in beta testing while the first version of iOS 14.1 and the iPad equivalent sent out for testing were the Golden Masters.
Apple also just seeded watchOS 7.1 beta 3 and tvOS 14.2 beta 3 to developers too.
All of these versions are only for those in Apple’s developer program. Unlike the public beta program, joining the developer program requires paying a $100 annual fee.
