After months of near quiet, a images and even video leaked out supposedly showing Apple’s first over-the-ears headphones, possibly called AirPods Studio.

If real, these show the headphones will have a squarish design, with curved edges and corners.

The images come from choco_bit, a leaker with modest reputation for accurately predicting future Apple hardware.

The clearest picture shows the “Probably Sport variant of Apples headphones,” according to choco_bit. The color appears to be Space Grey.

The same source has a brief video showing the headphones in white.

Noted leaker Jon Prosser later stepped in with a render of the AirPods Studio headphones and some additional details. They’ll supposedly offer noise cancellation, have a USB-C port, and be completely reversible.

The backstory of Apple’s first headphones

Dibs and drapes of info about Apple’s plans to release it first headphones leaked out throughout much of 2020. Trusted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in February they were on the way. And then low-resolution images were found buried in a leaked copy of iOS 14. These appear to match the ones leaked on Wednesday. Late in the spring came word they’d be called AirPods Studio.

This company already sells over-the-ear headphones under its Beats brand. But the rumored device will instead have the Apple brand. This is allegedly part of Cupertino phasing out Beats.

If real, these headphone might be unveiled at the Apple October event, along with the iPhone 12.
