OtterBox’s latest screen protectors not only prevent scratches, they also contain an antimicrobial agent. The Amplify Glass line is registered with the Environmental Protection Agency and manufactured by Corning. These screen protectors debuted Thursday for the iPhone 11 series as well as earlier models.

OtterBox screen protectors use a trusted antimicrobial method

“Our phones pick up bacteria wherever we go,” said OtterBox CEO Jim Parke. “Amplify Glass with Antimicrobial Technology incorporates an agent in the glass to help reduce microbial growth.”

Most of the bacteria on your phone is harmless. But studies have shown that phones can spread bacterial pathogens. To fight this, OtterBox Amplify Glass went with a long-trusted solution: silver. This metal’s antibacterial properties are well known. And the silver ions embedded in the glass of this screen protector won’t wear away over time.

But don’t over-estimate its capabilities. “Amplify Glass with Antimicrobial Technology does not protect the user or provide any express or implied public health benefit,” warns OtterBox.

Available for iPhone 11 series, iPhone XR and more

Amplify Glass antimicrobial screen protectors launched on Thursday. There are versions for the 6.5-inch iPhone 11 Pro Max, the 5.8-inch iPhone 11 Pro, and the 6.1-inch iPhone 11 and XR. There’s also one for the iPhone 6, 6s, 7 and 8. All normally cost $49.95, but are currently 20% off, lowering the price to $39.96.

OtterBox unveiled this line of screen protectors at CES in January, but they’re only now reaching customers.
