Apple is promising us a lot of iPhone for the price. The new iPhone SE is a bargain with expensive specs for $399.

But with a little shopping, a bargain can be more of a steal.

There is a growing list of rebates and trade-ins that can knock more than a few bucks off the list price, according to C/net’s Cheapskate blog, which has been tracking some of the best deals.

The second-generation iPhone SE goes on sale this Friday. Judging by the high volume of pre-orders, only the earliest of early birds will get their new iPhone at the end of the week.

This refreshed handset has the same A13 processor as the current flagship iPhone 11 Pro along with an impressive set of camera features that includes many of the computational bells and whistles of more expensive iPhones.

The $399 price tag is for a 64GB model and the deals listed below may entice some to go for more storage. The 128GB SE lists for $449. Another $100 buys the 256GB option.

Apple will give you a discount by training in your old iPhone at the Apple Store. You will want to purchase the SIM-free handset so that you can pick the carrier later. You will have to pay full price but after your iPhone is inspected, Apple will give you cash credit. According to C/net, an iPhone 6s in good shape could bring $80 and an iPhone 7 Plus is worth $150.

Right now, Visible may have the best deal. The provider will see you an iPhone SE on Friday at $384, which is below list price and is extending a $200 rebate. You will have to sign up for at least two months of service for the rebate, which is in the form of a virtual credit card from MasterCard.

Xfinity Mobile’s deal could save you $200 on the new iPhone SE. The offer requires you to activate a new line of service and locks you into a two-year contract. That amounts to $8.33 a month for the phone and services plans start at $12 per month with 1GB of data.

Sam’s Club members who purchase an iPhone SE from Friday through May 8 and activate with AT&T will receive a $100 Sam’s Club eGift card.
