More people are watching Apple TV+ now that they are staying home to avoid the coronavirus, according to a market-analysis firm. Plus, this streaming service has a couple of strong shows that have increased viewership.
Apple TV+ viewership up from COVID-19 self isolation
Apple’s streaming video service reportedly experienced a 10% increase in viewership in the two weeks after this disease took hold in countries outside of China.
Steve Langdon with Parrot Analytics told Deadline the rise in Apple TV+ viewers began after March 11, when the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a pandemic.
A couple of hits
Some of the Apple TV+ viewership increases comes from two shows that found an audience. Langdon says that Steven Spielberg’s Amazing Stories on Apple TV+ is generating 14.1 times as much interest as an average TV show. This sci-fi/fantasy program recently finished its first season.
And the comedy Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet is seeing 8.7 times as much interest as an average show. Set at a game-development company, all 9 episodes debuted Feb. 7.
Parrot Analytics can’t rank TV shows’s popularity simply by counting the number of viewers because streaming services generally don’t reveal how often their shows are watched. Instead,market-analysis company tracks interest in programs through social media posts and likes, the number of times video files are pirated, and similar methods.
