Face masks are the hottest trend of 2020 whether we like it or not. If you’re looking to level up your mask game while also supporting a good cause, Lumen Couture’s new LED Matrix Face Mask is exactly what you need.

Lumen Couture founder Chelsea Klukas —  who is also a product design manager at Oculus — revealed her iPhone-controlled LED mask this week. The device lets wearers draw their own designs and text that are displayed on the front of the mask using a flexible LED panel to unlock endless possibilities.

Boasting a battery life of 3-4 hours per charge, the LED Matrix Face Mask Lumis made of components (including the electronics) that are fully removable, allowing users to throw it in the washing machine for sanitization. The screen pairs to your iPhone or Android device with a pre-made app that includes an equalizer that responds to music or your voice with visual effects.

Klukas says she originally didn’t create the mask with any intent to sell it. The response has been so strong though that she created a product page and plans to start making them this week. You can pre-order one online for $90. She says 60% of the profits from each mask sold will be donated to the WHO COVID-19 Response Fund.

Lumen Couture warns that the product is a novelty fashion mask and has not been tested for medical efficiency. If you’re planning to use it as medical protection you do so at your own risk.

If you don’t want to wait until May to get your mask, Klukas posted a DIY tutorial video on YouTube that walks you through the process.
