A certain phone maker is taking the phase “Big Apple” as a suggestion. Apple reportedly signed a lease for 220,000 square feet in a historic building in New York City. That’s far larger than the company’s current NYC office.
But this won’t become an enormous Apple Store. This is office space.
Apple growing in New York
The iPhone maker will take over the 11th-through-14th floors of 11 Pennsylvania Plaza, according to the New York Post. It’s across the street from Madison Square Garden and Penn Station.
The first reports that Apple is looking for more New York office space came last fall, and now it’s supposedly made a decision.
Movin’ on up….
The building Apple is moving into is owned by Vornado Realty Trust, who named it Penn 11. It was built in 1923, and has approximately 1.15 million square feet of space.
Apple will have some prestigious company. This building is home to the New York headquarters of Macy’s and AMC Networks.
It’s not known when Apple will relocate from its current New York offices on Fifth Avenue. It reportedly has 52,000 square feet in this location, so the company will be making a considerable upgrade.
And this comes on top of the Apple Stores that are scattered across NYC. That includes the iconic Fifth Avenue location that reopened last fall… without the infamous glass stairs,
