Swan Song, a new film starring two-time Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali, is being produced for Apple TV+. It was written, and will be directed, by another Academy Award winner, Benjamin Cleary.

Apple describes Swan Song as a “genre-bending drama.” A synopsis says “Set in the near future, the film explores how far someone will go, and how much they’ll sacrifice, to make a happier life for the people they love.”

Swan Song brings together plenty of talent

Mahershala Ali is both an actor and a rapper. He won Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actor for Moonlight and Green Book. On TV, he’s been in True Detective and House of Cards.

Benjamin Cleary won an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short for Stutterer.

“Benjamin’s script for ‘Swan Song’ immediately connected with us,” said Matt Dentler, Apple’s head of Feature Development and Acquisitions. “We cannot wait to bring Benjamin’s vision together with Mahershala’s undeniable talent to deliver this powerfully layered story to audiences around the world.”

Swan Song is scheduled to go into production this spring. When it will appear on Apple TV+ is unknown. The film will also be released in theaters.

Other Apple original movies that will debut soon include The Banker, On the Rocks and Wolfwalkers.
