Apple Watch users in New Zealand can now take advantage of cellular connectivity on compatible devices.

Local carrier Spark has become the first to roll out eSIM support and a new plan aimed specifically at wearables. It only serves Apple Watch Series 5 for now — but support for other devices will come later.

Apple first brought cellular connectivity to Apple Watch just over two years ago. A long list of carriers around the world now support it, but many don’t. New Zealand has finally added its name to the list, thanks to Spark.

Apple Watch goes cellular in New Zealand

Spark’s new One Number Wearable Plan, priced at NZ$12.99 a month, gives cellular Apple Watch owners unlimited data for making calls, sending messages, streaming music, and using apps.

The plan also offers free international emergency services.

Spark is the first carrier to embrace eSIM technology in New Zealand. That means you won’t find competing plans elsewhere just yet. And for now, you can only enjoy the service on Apple Watch Series 5.

Apple’s latest device is now available from Spark for those who don’t already have one, and cellular models start at NZ$929. That’s a NZ$200 premium over the GPS option.

Spark promises that support for other wearables — like Apple Watch Series 4 — will be added later.
