Apple TV+ series The Morning Show just earned its first award nomination. Billy Crudup, who plays cocky network head Cory Ellison, is up for Best Supporting Actor in the Critics’ Choice Awards.
Crudup is up against Peter Dinklage, who played Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones, and Tim Blake Nelson, who plays Wade Tillman in HBO’s hot new action drama Watchmen.
The Morning Show quickly became a hit with Apple TV+ subscribers, despite being panned by critics ahead of its debut. The show focuses on the inner workings of a TV news show after its male anchor gets fired for sexual misconduct. Its explosive drama and controversial themes hooked viewers from the very start.
Crudup’s character plays a large part in that drama early on. He does a terrific job of portraying an arrogant but charismatic chief who has fun ruffling feathers and rocking the already shaky boat. His performance earned Crudup a Critics’ Choice Awards nomination less than two months after Apple TV+ made its debut.

Crudup is up for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. Aside from Dinklage and Nelson, Crudup also faces tough competition from Asante Blackk, Asia Kate Dillion, Justin Hartley and Delroy Lindo.
This is the first nomination for The Morning Show since it started airing in early November. Apple will be pleased its originals are already gaining recognition, but it has some catching up to do.
Netflix secured a whopping 61 Critics’ Choice nominations in total. Its epic mob movie The Irishman, which stars Robert De Niro, earned 14 alone. It’s up for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Director and more.
Other Apple TV+ rivals are also doing well. HBO picked up 33 nominations, while Amazon got 14.
A bright future for Apple TV+
The Morning Show might be the only Apple original to receive a nomination this time around. But it is certainly not the only Apple TV+ show worth watching.
Others like See, For All Mankind, and new horror drama Servant have all been enjoying rave reviews from fans. And there are other promising shows and movies on the way.
If Apple can keep this up, its streaming video platform, which costs just $4.99 a month for now, should have a bright future ahead.
