Apple’s all-new 16-inch MacBook Pro will come packing improved speakers and noise-canceling microphones, according to one reliable source.
The machine, which could also pack the sharpest display Apple has ever put into a MacBook Pro, could make its official debut later today.
MacBook Pro fans have been itching for a big refresh since the introduction of the current design. Its ultra-thin butterfly switch keyboard, despite some revisions, has left many less than pleased.
We’ve been hearing for some time that Apple is planning a new 16-inch model that will fix those keyboard complaints — and make other big improvements elsewhere.
Here’s the latest from reliable Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman.
16-inch MacBook Pro will pack super-sharp display
The new MacBook Pro’s biggest selling point will be its new screen. At 16 inches, it will be less than 4% larger than the 15.4-inch screen in today’s largest models. But it’s not size Apple will be pushing.
That new display is expected to offer a higher pixel density than today’s MacBook Pro screens. We don’t have numbers yet, but “it’s really going to be about the higher resolution,” Gurman tweeted.
The 16-inch MacBook Pro will also feature “impressive speakers” and noise-cancelling microphones. It will have the ability to filter out background noise for things like FaceTime calls and audio recording.
Finally, Gurman reaffirms the next-generation notebook will feature a new scissor switch keyboard. It is expected to be “similar to the iMac external Magic Keyboard,” and could have a redesigned Touch Bar.
Earlier leaks have indicated Apple will bring back the physical escape key this year.
On sale today?
This new MacBook Pro will be Apple’s largest since the discontinuation of the 17-inch model. But it will “cost about the same” as today’s 15-inch options, Gurman says.
So, when can we expect to see it? Earlier reports claimed Apple has this week held private press briefings at a luxury loft mansion in New York City to preview the device ahead of its debut.
We could see a press release announcing the 16-inch MacBook Pro as early as today — and it’s likely to be available to order right away.
Unfortunately for 13-inch MacBook Pro fans, it sounds like the more portable model won’t be seeing a big refresh until sometime next year.
