In a head-to-head “torture test” challenge, the iPhone 11 Pro Max battery not only lasted longer than the ones in Apple’s other 2019 handsets — it beat Samsung’s new flagship model by a wide margin.

Apple put its largest battery ever in the new 6.5-inch iOS device, and it’s clearly paying off.

On YouTube, Mr. Whosetheboss did a comparison of all three iPhone 11 series models, as well as the Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ and the Huawei Mate 30 Pro.

To be clear, this is a torture test. During testing, the YouTuber keeps all five of the handsets on until their batteries go flat and the devices shut down. While this isn’t the way people use phones, it should indicate relative battery lives.

The tester used a lux meter to set equal brightness levels on all five phones. That way, the backlights don’t throw off the results.

Results for each device are:

  • iPhone 11 Pro Max: 8 hours and 32 minutes
  • Huawei Mate 30 Pro: 8 hours and 13 minutes
  • iPhone 11 Pro: 6 hours and 42 minutes
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 10+: 6 hours and 31 minutes
  • iPhone 11: 5 hours and 2 minutes
