Taking aim at professional photographers, Sony Electronics unveiled a USB hub that includes readers for UHS-II SD and microSD cards. There are plenty of hubs that can access memory cards, but the MRW-S3 is faster than any of them.

Sony’s hub also has an HDMI port, plus high-speed USB-A and USB-C ports.

The Sony MRW-S3 is blazing fast

The MRW-S3 can read data off UHS-II cards at up to 300MB/s. Typically, only pro photographers and videographers need this kind of speed.

“The world’s fastest UHS-II SD and microSD card reader handles everything from high-resolution RAW image files to 4K videos and allows the user to maximize their creativity affording more time to spend on retouching and editing content,” said Sony.

One edge of the MRW-S3 are a USB-C and a USB-A port that comply with USB 3.1 Gen 2 for data transfers up to 1000MB/s.

It also has a USB-C port that supports 100W USB Power Delivery, plus a third USB-C port for connecting to a Mac or other PC.

This hub’s HDMI port offers up to 4K at 30fps.

Sony promises the MRW-S3 hub will be available fall of 2019. The Japanese company has not yet announced a price.
