Samsung today issued invites for a big Galaxy Unpacked event on August 7. The South Korean company is expected to unveil its newest rival to the iPhone XS Max — the much-anticipated Galaxy Note 10.

We recently got a glimpse at leaked photos of the device, which will offer a giant edge-to-edge display with a tiny camera cutout.

Samsung’s event, like many Unpacked events before it, will be held in New York City. The invitation issued to the press today doesn’t give much away — but there is something we can take from it.

What to expect from the Galaxy Note 10

The invite shows a shiny new S Pen that draws a rather large camera sensor. It is believed this hints at a big upgrade for the Note 10’s front-facing selfie shooter, which will sit by itself on the front of the phone.

Samsung seems to be doing away with the secondary depth sensor found on the Galaxy S10+. This allows the camera cutout in the large screen to be even smaller. It’s unlikely that depth sensor will be missed on the front of the phone.

The Note 10 is also expected to pack Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 855 processor in certain regions — including the U.S. — while some versions of the device could offer a whopping 12GB of RAM.

A new contender to iPhone XS Max

As one of the largest flagships in Samsung’s lineup, the Note 10 is positioned to do battle with the iPhone XS Max. It will likely cost around the same price, but its built-in S Pen, lack of notch, and greater flexibility allowed by Android will make it a more appealing alternative for some.

If you’re interested in what Samsung has up its sleeve, you’ll be able to tune in to its Unpacked event on August 7. It kicks off at 4 p.m. local time (1 p.m. PDT) and will be live-streamed on Samsung’s website at samsung.com/galaxy.

If we’re really, really lucky, the event may also bring an official update on the long-awaited Galaxy Fold. But I wouldn’t get your hopes up.
