The battle royale genre has become so insanely popular that almost every franchise has its own version at this point. That includes classic Super Mario Bros., thanks to one talented Nintendo fan.

And because this is a free game you play in your web browser, anyone can take control of the world’s favorite plumber as he battles it out against 74 lookalikes.

Mario Royale is just like a classic Super Mario game — this isn’t Fornite or PUBG with Mario skins. The aim of the game is make your way through a randomly-selected level and be the first to reach the flagpole at the end.

It might sound simple, but it’s nowhere near as easy as you might think.

Mario Royale is tough

Even if you’re a 2D platforming pro, you’re going to struggle. That’s because each of the 75 players in each match looks exactly the same, so keeping track of your character is just as difficult as keeping them alive.

You will have to navigate the usual obstacles you will typically see in Super Mario games — as well as other players. It’s surprisingly good fun, and we highly recommend you give it a go. You can even play on iOS devices using touch controls.

But you’ll need to be quick. Nintendo is usually quick to stamp out fan-made games like this, so it probably won’t last long. Give it a go while you can.
