Valve now offers a standalone Steam Chat app for Android and iOS.

The free download lets gamers stay in touch with friends on the move. It boasts all the messaging features you’re used to in Steam, including group chat, customizable notifications, and more. But one thing’s missing.

Steam Chat arrives less than a week after Steam Link finally landed on iOS, allowing gamers to stream PC titles to their iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV. It isn’t quite as exciting, but it’s a nice addition to Valve’s lineup.

Steam Chat lets you stay in touch on the move

The app comes almost a year after Valve overhauled its Steam Chat service for the desktop to better compete with the likes of Discord. It delivers many of the same features, including:

  • Friends list with ability to see who’s online and what they’re playing
  • Rich text chat with support for videos, tweets, images, GIFs, and more
  • Ability to respond to game invite links from your phone
  • Group chat support
  • Customizable notifications

There’s one big omission from that list, and that’s voice chat. Valve says it is working on adding this later on, but for now, you’ll have to do without.

Steam Chat is available to download now on Android and iOS. It has already been well-received by fans, with a 5-star rating on Google Play, and a 4.5-star rating in the App Store.
