If you have an Apple Watch Series 3 in need of repair, there’s a chance Apple will upgrade it to a Series 4 model at no extra cost.
Apple has given retail staff and Authorized Service Providers permission to give out newer units in some cases because Series 3 devices are in short supply. It’s not yet clear if this is a permanent or temporary move.
Apple has been known to offer free upgrades to some customers when their products are in need of repair. It’s not common, but it typically happens when the product is no longer available or in short supply.
Fortunately for some Apple Watch Series 3 owners, some models now qualify for a free (assuming you have a valid warranty) upgrade.
Take your broken Apple Watch in for repair today
“The change means that customers looking for a repair or replacement for their Apple Watch Series 3 Stainless Steel (GPS + Cellular) model will instead be fulfilled with Apple Watch Series 4, Stainless Steel (GPS + Cellular) inventory as a replacement due to constraints on the older model,” reports 9to5Mac.
The information comes from “sources briefed on the update,” but it’s not clear if other models are eligible, or if this is a temporary arrangement. With that said, you might want to get your broken Apple Watch 3 in for repair as soon as possible.
The arrangement reportedly applies to both Apple Stores and Authorized Service Providers not just in the U.S., but around the world. Obviously the upgrade won’t be free if your existing Apple Watch isn’t covered by a valid warranty.
