Gabrielle Reilly purchased Apple AirPods because there were no wires for her mischievous cat to chew up.

But AirPods came with a new risk of loss from slipping out of her ears. So Reilly, a paralegal from Virginia, created a set of earrings to hold her AirPods.

A video of her shaking her head to show how her “Airings” secure the AirPod went viral in part because many saw the earrings as a joke.

Reilly, 22, told BuzzFreed her creation is a “functional joke.”

“I absolutely refuse to lose them,” Reilly said. “My cat ate through two pairs of Beats Bluetooth earphones, and all my other earphones. So I got the AirPods… but I still needed something to connect them.”

She started with a chain necklace as a place to connect her AirPods but then came the idea of earrings. She said it took her about an hour to make the piece that connects the AirPods to the earrings.

Apple products, as exhibited with the right band on an Apple Watch, can be as fashionable as functional.

If you like the idea of wearing AirPods this way, Reilly is happy to make you a pair for $20 when you order from this Shopify page.

Her tweet from Jan. 26 has more than 200,000 likes and was retweeted 47,000 times.
