The biggest photo and video sharing social network in the world is doubling down on voice messaging.

Instagram launched a new feature today that gives all users the ability to share short voice messages with other people through the Instagram Direct section of the app.

The messaging feature on Instagram has quickly become one of the most popular features of the app. Today’s addition of voice gives users another way to quickly communicate without eating into your data plan.

As first spotted by TechCrunch, the new feature allows you to record audio messages up to a minute in length. To send a voice message, just hold down on the microphone in a chat window, say what you want and then let go when you want to send. There’s not a way to listen to your message before you send it, but you can unsend it if you want.

Voice message stays permanently in a chat. They can be sent in individual or group chats. The feature is pretty similar to the voice messages feature in iMessage, expect Apple allows you to set an expiration length.

Instagram rolled out the feature to both iOS and Android users today.
