The new iPhone XR costs at least $250 less than the iPhone XS models but has the same A12 Bionic processor. That gives Apple’s latest significantly faster performance than any of its Android rivals, even the most expensive.

Benchmarks show the XR is 25 percent quicker than Samsung’s fastest, despite costing far less.

Primate Labs’ Geekbench 4, a well-regarded cross-platform benchmarking software, gives the iPhone XR a 10,980 score when using multiple processor cores, and a 4795 score with just a single core.

Those high marks come despite its $749 cost.  This isn’t Apple’s flagship handset, not its fastest.

iPhone XR performance beats ’em all

For comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 pulled in multi-core and single scores of 8765 and 2442, respectively. At $999, this model is also $250 more than the XR.

The Galaxy S9 Plus had 8661 and 3371 for multi-core and single-core, respectively. The smaller S9 scored 8518 and 3273. Samsung charges $840 and $720 for these.

While Samsung is Apple’s biggest rival in the smartphone market, it doesn’t have the fastest Android model. The OnePlus 6 pulled in a 8882 multi-core score, which is still nowhere close to the iPhone XR’s. performance. At least it’s only $529.

iPhone XR and the Apple A12 Bionic processor

Despite beating all the Android offerings, the iPhone XR performance generally isn’t quite as quick as Apple’s other new handsets. The iPhone XS scored 11,222 on the Geekbench 4 multi-core test and 4795 on single core. The larger XS Max had 11,195 and 4796 scores.

All the 2018 iPhone models are so quick because the use the Apple 12 Bionic processor — a 64-bit hexa-core chip running at 2.49 GHz. This is produced with a 7nm process, while Android devices are still using 10nm chips. Decreasing the distance between components brings better performance and also less waste heat, saving power.
