Fortnite’s hugely popular Playground mode is making a comeback this week with support for squad battles, the all terrain kart, and “lots more loot.”

Epic Games has also promised birthday rewards when you complete challenges and quests in-game to celebrate Fortnite’s first anniversary. It’s sure to be a crazy week for fans of Battle Royale.

Playground mode gives new and inexperienced Fortnite players the opportunity to improve their building and combat skills without the fear of being eliminated. With ample loot and hour-long matches, you can let your creativity run wild and sharpen your weapon skills alongside your squad.

Despite its popularity, Playground mode disappeared after one week like other limited-time game modes. But after making improvements, Epic is bringing it back.

Fortnite’s Playground mode returns

The 5.10 update, which rolls out on Tuesday, will add an improved Playground mode with team select options that let you set up squad battles, improve your ATK driving skills, and play around with even more loot.

The new Playground mode will go live on Wednesday, July 25. But there’s more to enjoy while you’re waiting.

Fortnite’s first birthday

July 24 marks Fortnite’s first birthday, and Epic is giving away special cosmetics to celebrate. You can claim them by completing the in-game challenges and quests. Here’s what’s up for grabs and how you’ll unlock everything:

  • Fortnite birthday emoticon — deal 1,000 damage to opponents
  • Happy Birthday spray — dance at different birthday cakes
  • 5,000 XP — play 14 matches
  • Birthday cake back bling — complete all three challenges above

These challenges will be available when the Fortnite servers return from downtime tomorrow. You’ll have until August 7 to complete them. It’s unclear if Epic will offer additional challenges and rewards later on, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed.

You can also expect to see the new compact SMG and Slurp Juice improvements when Fortnite version 5.10 is live.
