Pre-orders for Apple’s new HomePod speaker went on sale this morning and it looks like there’s still plenty of supply to go around.
HomePod doesn’t hit stores until February 9th but most Apple fans have already made up their mind on whether its a must-buy. Cult of Mac is running a poll and we want to know who’s ready to plop down $349 on the first Siri-powered speaker.

Did you buy the HomePod?

No I did not purchase an HomePod because it does not appear to be able to access music that I have loaded into iTunes by ripping CD’s, purchased through other music services such as HD Tracks or Pono. If that is true that is truly lame on Apple’s part.
HomePod has Bluetooth 5.0.
And if you have iTunes Match , only $29 a year , job done if you dont want to spend money on apple music.
I ordered one; if it ends up having the limitation that Jeff mentioned, it’ll be going back promptly.
I find the HomePod interesting. But it’s got a few problems.
It’s a mono speaker. Blow sound all over the the room you want, still mono. We’ve had TONS of the “little great sounding speaker” for decades from much better and more experienced audio companies and ….. well, there you go. Plus, I’ve read the midrange is weak. Makes for a boomy, harsh sound …. like Thugs, oddly. I mean Beats. Excuse me. But we’ll see, everything sounds great until you bring it home and compare it to your system.
wish you could connect something to it. It would be nice to connect a tv to it, or anything for that matter. Is it THAT horrible to have ANY connections to Apple products?
Too stuck in the Apple ecosystem. Maybe they will open it up more when sales level off quickly after the usual people buy it.
Siri. If it works anything like today…. YIKES! Pay more, get less. There’s a reason this is a “great audio speaker” first and “oh, by the way” Siri second.
Even if I never buy it I’m glad the HomePod is out. Why? Because, finally, Apple will get off it’s a$$ and get serious about a number of things they have either ignored, lost interest, fallen behind th industry, etc.. and that’s good for all people in the Apple ecosystem. Competition has always been good for Apple’s customers. Even IF many members of the Church of Appletology don’t like anything made by anyone else, ever.
