Apple is giving away free Beats headphones for its latest Back to School promotion.
Students and teachers who purchase a qualifying Mac at reduced education pricing will get a set of Beats Solo3 wireless headphones at no extra cost, while those who purchase a new iPad Pro will be treated to BeatsX.
Apple used to give away gift cards worth as much as $100 for its Back to School promotions, but in recent years, it has swapped those for free Beats headphones. That’s a shame if you don’t want Beats, but the value of the freebie has certainly increased.
Just like last year, those who purchase a qualifying Mac will receive a free pair of Solo3 wireless headphones worth $299.95. Eligible machines include the MacBook, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, and Mac Pro — but not the more affordable Mac mini.
Those who purchase a new iPad Pro — either the 10.5- or 12.9-inch models — will receive a free set of BeatsX wireless earphones worth $149.95. If you don’t want those, you can upgrade to the Powerbeats3 earphones for $50, or to the Solo3 headphones for $150.
All three feature Apple’s new W1 chip for a more stable wireless connection and increased efficiency. That’s the same chip used in AirPods, but sadly, there’s no option to upgrade to those, which still come with a six-week wait for shipping.
To take advantage of Apple’s Back to School promotion, you must be a student, parent, or teacher eligible for education pricing. You can also enjoy Apple Music for just $4.99 a month.
