A new macOS beta finally brings the popular Night Shift feature from iOS to the Mac.
Apple seeded macOS 10.12.4 beta 1 to all registered developers today, bringing Night Shift plus a host of bug fixes and performance improvements for Apple’s computers. The new macOS beta comes alongside the first betas for iOS 10.3 and tvOS 10.2.
Night Shift debuted on iOS devices in iOS 9.3. The feature automatically adjusts the brightness of displays to a warmer color at night, a practice that some studies suggest might help users fall asleep easier at night.
It’s unclear if any other major features are part of the macOS beta. Apple’s release notes for macOS 10.12.4 beta 1 don’t mention any major improvements or additions.
Apple asks developers to test the following areas on Mac:
• Night Shift preference for automatically shifting the colors of your display to the warmer end of the spectrum after dark.
• Siri support for checking Cricket scores, schedules, and player rosters from the Indian Premier League and International Cricket Council.
• Dictation support for Shanghainese.
• Displaying, manipulating and generating PDFs with system-provided APIs.
tvOS 10.2 beta is built for speed
The release notes for tvOS 10.2 beta say Apple TV users will now be able to enjoy accelerated scrolling to get through content much more quickly on the big screen.
