A strange flaw in the design of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus has begun to plague a growing number of users, according to a new report that claims third-party repair experts are swamped with requests to fix what the Genius Bar can’t.
The repair gurus at iFixit say the defect is allegedly more common with the iPhone 6 Plus and causes a gray flickering bar at the top of the display while making the touchscreen completely unresponsive.
Many people have allegedly taken their iPhones to Apple to have the “Touch Disease” cured, but were told nothing can be done to fix the problem because the iPhones are already out of warranty. Apple is apparently aware of the problem because its support forums are flooded with complaints. Yet the company is not doing anything about the
Some iPhone owners plagued with Touch Disease have been able to fix the issue momentarily by applying pressure to the display, but the gray bar keeps coming back and touch functionality grows worse.
The only way to fix the defect is to replace the logic board or the Touch ICs on the logic board. You can also just replace the entire iPhone, which seems like a good bet what with the iPhone 7 coming next month.

I would caution people to take their phones to an unauthorized service provider. Here’s why. First off, if you have Standard Warranty or AppleCare, then Apple should just replace your unit.
If not, then a refurbished 6/6S is $299 and a 6+/6S+ is $329. If Apple issues a recall, and you bought the refurbished phone, then they would reimburse you for whatever repairs/replacement, as long as it was done by Apple or an AUTHORIZED Service Provider. Apple can’t warrant what someone does that’s not Authorized, so who knows if they are really fixing the product or if the problem reocurrs down the road and since these unauthorized service providers aren’t repairing them per the mfg’s procedures, then they can’t warrant what they do.
Obviously take the device in question to Apple, have them perform their diagnostic tools and if you have to pay for a refurbished unit, then do that, and hold on to your receipts and make sure they note what the symptom was so that if there is a recall, you can get reimbursed.

Great to be living in Sweden. Warranty can not be less than 3 years by law if you buy the product as a private consumer. I wonder if Apple will just hand out new phones to those affected here, or if they actually will make repairs.
More than likely they will issue refurbished iPhones
Always heard it’s two years…
1st Year – Evidence burden on the seller/maker of the product (Basicly means “no questions asked” warranty”)
2nd year – Evindence burden on customer (I have to prove that this fault was there from production)
This 3rd year? is it just an extension of the 2nd?
Kul se att fler svenskar är här….
I had this issue back in May with my 6 Plus. Yes, the Genius Bar told me there was nothing that could be done other than buying another phone because it was out of warranty. Pressing on the upper corners of the screen would make the phone work for a few minutes and then it would go back to the phantom touch. Really sucked when it would happen as you were typing a message and then the keyboard would go nut and send gibberish out.
That’s Apple’s wireless courtesy reminder to consumers to be prepared to purchase iPhone 7 soon.
Nothing new or unusual here.
Can confirm it’s not some magic thing to force people to upgrade. Had this exact problem happen to my 6 plus last June after I had only owned the phone for 2 months. The employees at my store knew about this as a rare issue.
Apple are SO shit these days it’s untrue.
i had to drop 350 bucks for a replacement on sunday because of this exact issue. not happy with apple right now. where is the class action suit?
Anyone who faces this problem in UK and tries to get palmed off, just remind them of the Sales of Goods Act, which trumps any manufacturer warranty and can be invoked up to 6 years after purchase. Here’s a good article about it which also has reference to Apple.
Recently had an iPhone 5c doing the exact same thing.
