The GoPro action camera has turned average consumers into cinematic artists. But sometimes the star is not the camera itself, but the accessory that helps the camera get that award-winning clip.
A new handheld stabilizer by áetho could be the next star, preventing jerky footage with a professional smoothness that uses sensors to adjust to movement at an astounding rate of 1,000 times per second.
After just eight days on Indiegogo, the áetho grip called Aeon has eclipsed minimum crowd-funding goals and GoPro fans looking for help with a steady hand can get one for $349.
The Aeon grip is kind of shaped like a banana, but its appeal is a live action screen, a joystick that pans and tilts the camera and three sensors that detects movement along three axes.
The GoPro offers a great point of view. It’s small and can be mounted on skydiving helmets, at the end of serf boards and, of course, take to the skies cradled on the bottom of a drone. But some shots require the camera to follow the action and to avoid shaky shots, videographers employ bulky Steadicam rigs that can run anywhere from $400 to a few thousand dollars.
The Aeon fits in the hand and likely the same bag as your GoPro. In can also attach to other accessories like selfie sticks and booms. The company boasts of a battery life of up to five hours.
áetho expects to begin shipping the Aeon by March.
