When Apple created the MagSafe adapter for its highly desirable line of MacBooks back in 2006, the world changed. Gone were the days of tripping over your power adapter cord and pulling your entire MacBook down onto a cold, uncaring floor.

These days, your iPhone and iPad have a similar problem, with a Lightning cable that connects so securely to the power port that if you happen to walk by and trip on the cable, you’re gonna fling that oh-so-precious device right to the ground, dashing its poor little silicon brains out.

This Kickstarter project, ZNAPS, aims to fix this design nightmare with a magnetic Lightning cable adapter that will transform the way you charge your Apple mobile devices, all for an excitingly low price of $9.

You simply slide your Lightning cable into the ZNAPS adapter sleeve, which is magnetically attracted to the little Lightning dongle you can plug into and leave connected to your iPhone or iPad power port. To power up or sync your iOS device, simply move your adapted Lightning cable near the magnetic dongle and snick them together.

This unique adapter is waterproof, has a charge indicator on the little sleeve that slides onto your Lightning cable, and is fully reversible, just like the original Lightning cable. The ZNAPS adapter supports Micro-USB as well, letting Android users have some of the fun.

At $9 a pop, this little MagSafe-like peripheral for your mobile Apple device is surely poised to sell like crazy. You can pledge your support now over at Kickstarter and receive various combinations of adapters and connectors (the little plug that goes into your iPhone), depending on your level of support.

They’re even offering a keychain holder so you can carry a ZNAPS around with you, wherever you go. The project is already overfunded with 23 days to go, so people are obviously … attracted … to the idea.
