‘Bloons TD Battles’ Brings Dart-Throwing, Shuriken-Tossing Wizard Monkeys To The Multiplayer Tower Defense Party

New Zealand-based games developer Ninja Kiwi just released Bloons TD Battles to the iOS App Store. It’s a faster, more multiplayer take on popular Bloons TD, a single-player fixed path tower defense game with loads of depth, with wacky monkeys that stand in for towers as well.

The new, free Bloons TD Battles lets you go head to head against other random or known opponents on the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, while using ninja monkeys, sniper monkeys, and helicopters (among other equally bizarre characters and items) to keep your enemy’s “bloons” from making their way to your base.

As in most tower defense games, these monkeys are upgradeable, with a ton of additional firepower and range at your beck and call. You’ll need to try all the different towers out to decide what best matches your strategic bent, of course, but the ultimate goal is to pop all the bloons before they destroy your base. The developers hope that this will be a kinder, gentler entry to the Bloons series, and might even intrigue enough players to try the deeper, more intense Bloons TD 5, currently in the App Store for $2.99.

Bloons TD Battles has 10 custom tracks to battle across, and 19 different monkey towers, each able to upgrade eight times. You can customize your bloons with stickers to show off your victories in private matches you create and join, challenging Facebook friends along the way.

The included Assault Mode will challenge you to send bloons to wipe out your opponent’s defenses while maintaining your own, and Defensive Mode will task you with keeping as many bloons sent your way by your enemies as long as possible. PLaying with random opponents or with Facebook friends is supported, and (of course), you can buy energy potions, which can then be redeemed for bloon or monkey tower boosts, giving you an advantage without unbalancing the game too much.

Bloons TD Battles is free to download and play, and will run on iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch. Why not give it a look today, and maybe I’ll see you out there.
