Many of us have old MacBooks and PowerBooks collecting cobwebs and dust bunnies in the back of our closets. It seems an ignominous end to a computer that we not only loved, but probably spent a lot of money on. Did we waste our cash on something little better than a dust collector?
That’s what TNW co-founder Patrick de Laive wanted to know, so he ended up asking himself what would have happened if he’d bought Aple stock back in 2003 instead of spending $3,299 for the 17-inch PowerBook G4 back in April of 2003. The answer is that today, he could buy a starter home with the money he’d have earned on AAPL, while a PowerBook G4 on eBay can be had for under $50. Woof.

Unfortunately, I doubt if anyone could have imagined what Apple would be worth in 2012 back in 2003. There were probably people saying back in 2003 that Apple as a company wouldn’t exist in 2012 because Microsoft and Windows would put them out of business much sooner. However, it’s fun to look at things in hindsight. I purchased a Mac IIcx and Apple 2-page display in 1990 for around $3800 instead of buying 380 shares of Apple. I sure made a huge mistake but I really enjoyed using that IIcx and greyscale display on a daily basis for a number of years.

I have a PowerBook G4 17-Inch and it still work but the hard drive is no longer standard (replaced by a 250GB WD). And despite its age, it is still fluid (it run on Leopard 10.5.8) and is still very functional !
It has its place in the history of Apple with the Mac Pro G5 which was the revival in PowerPC Macs. But Apple remained on these plans and went to Intel which has not sullied the reputation of Macs so far !
In any case this is a great Mac !
I would like to apologize for mistakes, I’m French and I’m only 15 years old.
