If you’ve ever impotently raged against the FedEx man for ignoring the note you left on the door and not leaving a package for you behind the toolshed like you asked, great news: FedEx has just updated its Mobile app, allowing for you to sign for packages, reroute a package to another address or provide delivery instructions, all from your iPhone or iPad.

The Fedex Mobile app’s new functionality comes via Delivery Manager, FedEx’s new flexible delivery service that aims to catch up with UPS’s year old “UPS My Choice” service.

Using FedEx Delivery Manager, you can now view upcoming deliveries to your home address, get status updates, reschedule a delivery for later, reroute a package to another address, schedule a vacation hold, or schedule a package for pick-up.

More exciting to me, though, is that the new FedEx app allows you to sign for packages ahead of time, giving a deliveryman lee-way to leave the package at your door. You can also do the opposite, telling your FedEx deliveryman a message that says, for god’s sakes, don’t let the junkies down the hall sign for your new MacBook Pro.

The FedEx Mobile app is available on iTunes as a free download. To use the new features, though, you’ll have to sign up for the new Delivery Manager service through the app.
