Following its change in policy regarding FaceTime over cellular, AT&T has announced a new holiday promotion for tablets, including the iPad. Beginning this Friday, November 9th, AT&T will discount any tablet by $100 with the purchase of a two-year Mobile Share or tiered data plan.

Any tablet purchased at an AT&T retail location or through the carrier’s online store will receive the discount if a two-year plan is also purchased.

“AT&T has the widest variety of tablets and a broad choice of data plans to pick from,” said David Christopher, Chief Marketing Officer, AT&T. “With this new promotional discount for any tablet we sell, we’re giving our customers even more reason to stock up on the hottest device of the season, and just in time for the holidays.”

The plan options:

  • AT&T Mobile Share: $10 to share between 1 GB and 20GB
  • AT&T DataConnect 250MB: $15 for 250MB
  • AT&T DataConnect 3GB: $30 for 3GB
  • AT&T DataConnect 5GB: $50 for 5GB

If you buy an iPad on a U.S. carrier, you’re normally not committing to a two-year contract like you would with an iPhone purchase. Your plan can be renewed or cancelled at any point on a month-to-month basis. With this $100 deal, AT&T is hooking you into two uninterrupted years of paying for overpriced data—that’s where the real money is for AT&T.

This deal is good for customers who plan on using a tablet on AT&T’s network for two years, but a $100 discount isn’t really worth it if you’re not going to be reliant on a cellular connection.
