Apple didn’t make huge improvements to the camera of the iPhone 5, but they did add a sapphire crystal lens, and a few tweaks to make it shoot better in low-light conditions. Now that early reviews have been released we have a better idea of how much better the new camera is over its predecessor.
The two images above were shot under the same conditions by John Gruber for his iPhone 5 review. Obviously the iPhone 5 picture captures a lot more details and shows the dramatic improvements Apple’s made in low-light shooting. Although the iPhone 4S picture may not have been metered properly, pictures from other reviews seem to corroborate that the iPhone 5 is a lot better at low-light pictures.

Wow.
When I compare these pictures Apple did make a huge improvement on the camera. Why do you state they didn’t make huge improvements??? A sapphire lens and software tweaks are improvements aren’t they?
Shouldn’t dark scenes look…DARK? What’s this fascination on making nighttime look like day?
You want to be able to make out objects though. The iPhone 5 has less noise on low-light photos
It nice to see real world images for comparison.
