Tonight during the Olympics, Apple aired several new Mac focused ads. The spots are drastically different than the kind of style Apple has been using in its TV ads for products like Siri and the iPad.
One features a man on a plane receiving assistance from a Genius with iMovie on his Mac, and another features a conversation between the same Genius and a customer who has just been tricked into buying “basically a Mac.” The third ad shows a scene in which a frantic dad explores iPhoto with a Genius.

Haha, they don’t seem very “Apple-y”
Hmm…interesting ads. I thought maybe they would do something more competitive…like maybe using some of the competitive apps….a showdown on Angry Birds…. an iPad torching it around the world… something like that. Oh well, they didn’t ask me did they… I’ll enjoy anyway! Blessings everybody! Go USA!
Somewhat funny, but deviating too much from what Apple is. They definitely have the wrong person approving the new ads. :-/
Aw, the guy is so cute :(
You might aswell connect to the ads page on the Apple website…
You might as well embed the Apple-uploaded videos (they’re popping up right now):

These ads were painful to watch. I hope this isn’t a sign of Apple’s decline.
the guy is so cute :)
These seem more like ads Best Buy would run to promote geek squad, not Apple. While some parts are funny, I hope this isn’t a new theme they’ll be going with.
where can i get the t-shirt?
Steve Jobs would have thrown the ad agency that produced these lame spots out on their ass. Worst Apple commercials I’ve ever seen, ever, ever. This bodes disaster, methinks. Time for a new Director of Advertising and an agency review, Apple.
No, no, no, no!!!! Now Apple users are too stupid use a Mac when in reality is so easy to use you don’t need assistance from a teenager. It made me remember those old Apple adds of people having trouble using a PC and somebody would tell him to buy a Mac, now it’s going to be the other way around? Please Apple pull them off the air.
200% funnier if they had starred John Hodgman as the ‘converted’ Genius ?
The airplane ad was kinda funny when it ended with “Let’s do this!”
I really hope this type of ad isn’t gonna continue.
I get that they want to push their services, and in that respect the ads are good. Dispelling the whole snobby hipster image also good.
But unless they are moving to calling all employees Geniuses, the ads are also a fail. Right now Genius is the title for the computer repair guys. They aren’t sales people or teachers, as the ads suggest.
Imagine some Granny, part of the target audience who know nothing about how the stores work, comes in saying she needs to talk to a genius. She’ll be told she needs an appointment, but there are none until tomorrow. She comes back, has to wait an extra 45 minutes because they are behind. Only when she tells them she wants to buy something, they say she needs a specialist who are all up there. Something she could have gotten yesterday. Fail
Get a job at Apple
Unless you are Steve, you can’t really say that. He might have loved them
So how about we retire the whole ‘Steve wouldn’t do/like’ meme and stop giving out your personal opinion as if it was his. Respect the dead and all that
So Apple has to keep doing things the same way. Or just ways you think are good.
Very un-apple. It’s missing just about everything that makes Apple’s ads so special.
I hope this is not the beginning of Apple doing stupid stuff.
Or you can just buy one here.
what ever happened to the simple ad campaign approach that apple was taking… these just seem like ad’s you’d see from any company… they used to stand out.
Very very mediocre. And disappointing for a mac ad. The message that I’m getting is that ‘we are now making our computers more difficult to use and you will probably need to get someone at Apple to help you’
