Apple has released iOS 5.1 to the public. The update is available for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad owners running iOS 5. Check Software Update in your Settings app to download.
This update includes Japanese support for Siri, an always-visible camera shortcut on the lock screen, a redesigned Camera app for iPad, and the ability to finally delete individual photos from Photo Stream.
This update contains improvements and bug fixes, including:
- Japanese language support for Siri (availability may be limited during initial rollout)
- Photos can now be deleted from Photo Stream
- Camera shortcut now always visible on Lock Screen for iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod touch (4th generation)
- Camera face detection now highlights all detected faces
- Redesigned Camera app for iPad
- Genius Mixes and Genius playlists for iTunes Match subscribers
- Audio for TV shows and movies on iPad optimized to sound louder and clearer
- Podcast controls for playback speed and a 30 second rewind for iPad
- Updated AT&T network indicator
- Addresses bugs affecting battery life
- Fixes an issue that occasionally caused audio to drop for outgoing calls
Jailbreakers should not upgrade to iOS 5.1 at this time. All other iOS 5-enabled devices can download the update. It looks like iTunes 10.6 will be needed to let you sync a 5.1 device with your computer.

At 177 MB it isn’t a lightweight….WOW!
you could theoretically blow threw an entire months worth of data in a few seconds…if they allowed large file downloads.
How long til the trolls create a false reality that 5.1 kills battery life
Did they fix the battery life issue with this?
@twitter-399648814:disqus , conclusion, 2 minutes.
hmm, not showing up in my software update yet.
Dont forget your Apple TV 2 :) updating now
Does this update fix the issue with lyrics not appearing on the iPad?
the update comes in at 199MB for the iPad 2. and you HAVE to update in order to download Pages or Numbers.
I’ve noticed a drop in my battery life. But I have downloaded about 3 gigs of updates and there is practically smoke coming out of my iPad and iPhone.
also looks like the FONT was changed for the app names…
That’s better than the GBs that you would have to download prior to iOS 5.
Another update: the Location Services icon has been tweaked a bit to distinguish between an app using your exact location and one using geofencing (like Reminders). http://i.imgur.com/Baizb.png
i’m not touching this until i get a JB.
location services not working on my iPod Touch. I’m sad :/
AMEN. I never knew how amazing OTA Delta updates were until we got them.
I’m having trouble downloading on any device. Where’s that new data center when I need it?
Thank god. Enable 3G option is back
