Cloud storage services like Box.net aren’t taking iCloud lightly since on Wednesday they announced a new promotion, which you might find hard to resist considering that Apple’s newly released iCloud only offers users 5GB of free storage.  Box.net is offering 50GB of free online storage for anyone that has a free Box Personal account on any iOS device. Read that again — 10 times the amount of storage that iCloud offers and it is free!

All you have to do to claim your 50GB of free storage involves:
  1. Installing the Box.net for iOS client on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
  2. Log in to your Box.net account or register for a new one directly from the app.
  3. You’ll be rewarded with 50GB of free storage.

Afterwards you can start sharing and collaborating in the cloud with the rest of us that have left the safety of a grounded internet. Plus file size limitations will be increased from 25MB to 100MB and you can use your Box.net storage from any where you can use your Box.net account. That means the storage will be available to you on your Mac using the free Mac OS X client.

This offer is only good for about the next 50 days, but why wait that long go get that all that free storage now.

The box.net OSX client just does screen shares. If it’s going to replace Dropbox/iCloud/anything, we need a straight up OSX client with a folder like Dropbox.

Each file must be 100MB or less, each month you can have a total of 10GB traffic…so as long as you have 50 99mb files that you want to upload each month, in just 5 months you will have it all up there! YAY..oh wait…

I like minus.com better. They start at 10 GB with a 2Gb file size limit. They also have a referrer program each person gets 1gb extra for using your link. Mine is http://min.us/rv1R8n4 if anyone is interested….if you are not interested in a referral link, they are at http://Minus.com

  4. Ashley Mayer says:

Hey there – great question. The 50GB of free cloud storage last the lifetime of your account. Enjoy!

I just signed up for a new personal account via the iOS app I downloaded and I did not receive the 50GB promotion. Only the standard 5GB. How do I get the 50GB on my account?

  6. Ruiner says:

So the 50GB does not expire after 50 days? The promotion is what ends and those who signed up for the 50GB keep that amount of space for life? Free?

  7. Ruiner says:

    I got 50GB just a moment ago…

  8. Johan says:

Besides the obvious 50GB, what’s the difference between box.net and DropBox? :)

  9. John Collins says:
