If you’re not sold on how incredible Apple’s new Siri technology is, and why it’s worth buying an iPhone 4S just to have access to it, check out the incredible Siri demo video Apple played at today’s event.
If this doesn’t make you think that we’re on the cusp of an entirely new era of the way we interact with our devices, well, let us know, we probably embedded a Dramatic Chipmunk video by mistake instead.

Amazing. Sad that it’s only for iPhone 4S though.
Why can’t the current iPhone 4 get Siri as well? The native app on iOS, which granted, was not as tighly integrated, still had excellent voice capabilities. Now, Apple has pulled it from the app store. Great.
It’s not that I don’t think the demo is impressive, it’s just that voice recognition has been tried so many times in the past and never works as well in real life as it does in the demo. I’ve never seen any voice recognition product that worked faster or better than typing and clicking.
That was awesome. I will feel like Captain Kirk.. “Computer, what is the distance between here and the planet Vulcan?”
Because Siri is no doubt a hog and requires the A5 processor and 1GB of RAM.
I’m using the original Siri app on my 3S. It works as advertised but is not especially quick or comprehensive but the foundations are there.
Obviously to take full advantage of the technology a faster processor and other gizmo guts were needed.
I am looking forward to using it on a device designed for it.
if only the voice didn’t sound like a dying robot woman
Whats really annoying for me is the Siri isnt going to be available on the 4S in New Zealand.
The feature isnt listed anywhere on the New Zealand apple site but it is for US, Canada, UK, France, Germany and Australia, but not NZ.
Obviously they havent regionalised it for the NZ accent, I wonder how many other countries are going to experience the same thing and I wonder if it will be available at a later date, theres no info from Apple on that at this stage.
Hi Daniel,
I disagree. Dragon Dictate for Mac is very impressive. (The only thing that’s ‘wrong’ with it are a few silly bugs and inconsistencies, and a customer service team who don’t consistently reply to forum messages or emailed-in messages. Things which Apple’s team does far better.)
What’s very different about Siri is that it’s focused on assisting you in your daily routine, so every phrase you could ask it about the weather it can handle. Ditto for setting timers, playing songs, reading and sending messages, looking for local restaurants with free tables, and so on. It will also learn about you, your habits, who you ring the most, who you text, who you meet, which songs you love (from play count, ratings, frequency of songs in different playlist, etc etc.
The iPhone 4S is much faster than the iPhone 4 and has 1 gig of ram – so I think it will work pretty much as you see in the video above.
And however good Siri is, it will simply get a LOT better over the coming months and years.
I think it’s a game changer.
Siri beam me up.
Siri technology is good but clearly we need to wait until probably iPhone 6 or 7 before it can have any hope of understanding what a Kiwi is saying. :-)
It isn’t featured anywhere on the Canadian site. There won’t be specific support for Canadian English or Canadian French in Siri’s language options. However, Canadians will be free to choose U.S. English or standard French when using Siri. So i’m sure New Zealand will be the same with Australian English.
Siri isn’t voice recognition. It understands context and meaning. It’s A.I.
What is the name of the song to the video
