According to sources for The Wall Street Journal, Apple’s third-generation iPad will come packing an impressive 2048 x 1536 Retina display, and is set to launch in early 2012.
Suppliers have already shipped components for sampling of the iPad 3, according to the report, which cites sources “familiar with the situation,” and the device will launch early next year:
The next generation iPad is expected to feature a high resolution display – 2048 by 1536 compared with 1024 by 768 in the iPad 2 – and Apple’s suppliers have already shipped small quantities of components for the sampling of the iPad 3. Suppliers said Apple has placed orders for a 9.7-inch screen device.
Sources have indicated that a “trial run” will begin in October of this year, and that Apple has already placed order for a number of the iPad 3’s key components.
Unfortunately there’s no indication of just how early next year we can expect to see the device, but I’m guessing it will be around the 12-month anniversary of the second-generation model.

Early 2010? I knew Apple were dabbling in space-time.
2010 is in the title. Typo… But that would be cool to release new things in the past.
Check your date in the title.
LOL.. you caught that too huh?
Edit the title…
CultofMac edit the title please.
lol don’t you mean 2012? Unless…Apple has made a Time Machine…owait they already have xD
Wow, two disastrous title typos in one week… That I know of.
So this has a back to the future button it?
Not doing too well with headlines this week are you guys? Samsung the other day and 2010 today.
>insert lame time related joke here<
I am starting to suspect that every alternative article on CultOfMac comes with a typo title purposely.
Is this a signature publicity stunt of CoM?
if yes, its getting LAME AND OLDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
Sweet, 2010, I’ll get my old girlfriend back, I’ll have less money, I can go through kidney stones again and another oil spill will wreck the gulf!
My apologies, guys — stupid mistake! It’s been a long week! ;)
Sometimes I wonder if you guys do these mistakes on purpose for more comments :)

Here we go again.
Really hope Apple go to soft touch materials for the iPad. It’s so much better for a device of this kind. Could make it lighter too.
