Apple TV Users Complain About Update Failures

By

atv

Second-generation Apple TV users across the globe are reporting that they are not able to update their devices to the latest firmware. The complaints can be seen on a sizable thread on Apple’s Support Communities website.

The complaints detail problems with updates that leave the users unable to update their Apple TV via the device itself or via iTunes. In some cases users have reported being left with a non-functioning “bricked” Apple TV. Others are reporting that Apple is aware of the problem and that it might be related to problems Apple is experiencing with their update servers.

The problem is allegedly going to be resolved on June 28th, it doesn’t necessarily affect everyone, and it appears to be occurring across multiple geographical locations.

A little light on facts here David…

What update is this? I am not aware of any updates in some time, is this an old problem just getting attention?

Hey guys…if you buy an Apple TV it doesn’t necessarily have the latest and greatest iOS installed on it. It all depends on how long it has been sitting on the shelf. Apple doesn’t open all the boxes, update them, and reseal them for sale.

This makes me long for Apple TV even more… is that weird of me?

I just bought a new Apple TV unit and it is true a screen says an update is available, but when you go to get it, the up date will not “complete.” So I called Apple and the tech support lady told my they are in a major server system change-over. I will be able to grab the update in a week or two according to her.

In the meantime, my new Apple TV works just great without it.

  7. Keith Fisher says:

just curious what version of itunes you are using that was successful – as the current version (10.3.1) yields the corrupted file dialog here in the nashville, tn area.
