We love Jan Michael Cart’s incredible iOS concept videos. We still wish Apple would bring his dashboard and voice recognition concepts to iOS 5.
Perhaps Cart’s latest idea is the one most closely in reach: he envisions cross-platform text chat between iOS and OS X computers, and foresees Apple releasing their new iMessage client on the Mac App Store.
I’m positive that Apple will do just this. After all, when they released FaceTime, they released a Mac client about three months after it hit iOS. If Apple does something similar for iMessage, we should see it on the Mac by the end of the year.

I’d imagine it would just be added into iChat sometime in the future
Seems to me if they go to the trouble of creating iMessage for OS X, that they’d probably work facetime in too. I can’t really imagine myself using facetime on a mac unless I had a conversation going already…
I could see this happening along with a name change–iChat will become iMessage.
I can’t imagine having 3 apps open so i can chat. iChat. iMessage, Facetime.
Why didn’t they just integrate this into ichat.
I would hope that FaceTime, iChat, and iMessage (assuming it happens) get rolled up into one product. Even better if they roll in back-to-my-mac which now seems to be partially duplicated in iChat Screen Sharing / Remote Control.
I wish! That’ll be the final blow to BBM.
It does seem to me that iChat will be superseded by iMessages. Either that or Apple is holding it back till the successor to Lion so it can be an ‘upgrade’ feature.
Probably will be I imagine, either soon or as a so called ‘feature’ of any OS upgrade after Lion.
I think you are entirely right.
Another natural move would be to move any non-musical content/stores out of iTunes, now that iCloud has come about.
This could be cool! That way you could communicate with ANY Apple produce ANYWHERE!!!

i swear i was thinking of this yesterday! haha, make a PC version as well, and rule the world.
goodbye msn.
i think ichat will be no more. All will be in one app sooner or later.
The only problem I see is that iMessage will send the mesaage via SMS if the recipient doesn’t has an iOS5 device. How will the Mac send the message via SMS??
