U.K. carrier Vodafone has published a product listing that directly references the iPhone 5 coming in 16GB and 32GB capacities. The upcoming device will allegedly be offered in black and white, with no reference made to the rumored 64GB version.
Carriers have been known to let the cat out of the bag before, so there’s a good chance that Vodafone just squashed the hopes for a 64GB iPhone 5.
As discovered by AppleInsider, the product page for the Vodafone Sure Signal network signal booster has an updated list of smartphones that are ‘compatible’ with the device. The U.K carrier lists 4 different iPhone 5 models with the same color and capacity options that are currently available for the iPhone 4.
While this could just be a typo, or even a product of guesswork on Vodafone’s part, other carriers like Deutsche Telekom have already begun accepting iPhone 5 pre-orders, even though the device technically doesn’t exist yet.
The iPod touch and iPad come in 64GB models, while the iPhone 4 comes in 16GB and 32GB variants. This particular Vodafone listing corroborates a previous reference to 16GB and 32GB iPhone 5 models on Korea Telecom.
We’re not sure how this reflects on the rumor of a cheaper 8GB iPhone 4, either. Guess we’ll have to find out in the coming weeks!
Would you be sad if the iPhone 5 didn’t have a 64GB version?
Update: It appears that Vodafone has removed the iPhone 5 references from its website. Simple mistake? Or were we on to something?

I would indeed be very sad :(.
that sounds right… they want to push you to their cloud service.
But the cloud service doesn’t actually stream so either way you need internal storage in order to store the content you want from the cloud!
Like “Guy” said, they probably want to push icloud. But it is still unacceptable. It’s 2011, and 32GBs is not a large amount of storage. They should bump 32GB down to $199 and replace it with 64GB. or even offer 16, 32, and 64 gb.
ugh – this is terrible if it’s true. my 32 gig iPhone is completely full. I had to delete music just to update apps the other day.
Yeah, it would suck if the iP5 still maxes out at 32Gb.
exactly what i was thinking…but who knows streaming only and streaming while downloading could be two separate options in the full ios 5. They probably kept em separate in the betas to test them more thoroughly.
i would only be frustrated because if it doesnt happen the 32gb will be $299. i want it for $199.
icould is a SYNCING service. it makes sure you have the same content on all your devices. you can’t actually keep anything “in the cloud.” The absence of a 64GB model has nothing to do with icould or anything other cloud. It all has to do with costs. Apple doesn’t want to spend the money to make 64GB models and take a loss by replacing the GB model with the 32GB model BECAUSE it knows people will buy the damn thing no matter what.
Apple became the most valuable company in the world because they are very good at cutting costs and advertising.
Apple doesn’t have a could service, they have a syncing service with the word “cloud” in its name.
If you want to see what a “cloud” service looks and works like, check out google docs, google music, and amazon cloud drive to name a few.
not only would i be sad, i would seriously consider not getting one. the main reason why i didn’t upgrade to the iPhone 4 from my 3Gs was because they didn’t have it in 64GB. i am grazing 32GB on my iPhone daily. i need room to spread out. i’d be set with 64GB.
Has just been removed form vodafone’s website

I just got a $829.99 iPad2 for only $103.37 and my mom got a $1499.99 HDTV for only $251.92, they are both coming with USPS tomorrow. I would be an idiot to ever pay full retail prices at places like Walmart or Bestbuy. I sold a 37″ HDTV to my boss for $600 that I only paid $78.24 for. I use BIDFiRsT. COM

To all those saying iCloud isn’t a storage service… What? I’m under the impression you can store stuff in the cloud – up to 50 gb

I don’t think we’ll see a 64GB iPhone. If Apple increases the size of the iPhone capacity, that deters people from buying an iPod. Apple already uses glass in the back of the iPhone which looks delicate and “fancy” so that you’ll also feel the need to purchase a more “rugged” iPod if you’re really into music. Then, there’s iCloud…another reason why a 64GB iPhone is overkill. This coupled with the fact that Apple has become very aggressive with lowering price structures, I don’t think we’ll see this niche 64GB iPhone, just yet.
You’re phone is used for:
Music
photos:creating/storingvideos: creating/storingmovies/TV shows/etc…
games
apps
booksand I probably am forgetting things…..Meaning, you need storage capacity, especially when there are data caps, killing the syncing/streaming services.16/32GB storage capacity has became too small.64GB is better. depending on how much stuff you have, that is probably plenty.remember that your smartphone is starting to replace a lot of things, so storage capacity needs to go up.

What is even more important in this post is what is NOT said. It does not mention an iPhone Nano or iPhone 4s. There will only be one phone released in October an iPhone 5. I also agree with others that hard drive storage will become less and less important as streaming content becomes more common. All your content will be held on either a private hard drive or a business server (Apple, Google, etc.) Still a ways down the road but that is the direction so devices can be smaller and content can be secured.

Apple won’t want to offer bigger sizes because they want to offer the iPhone for less $.
Expect the prices to go down – iPhone 5 the Android Killer.
And who needs more GB when you have iCloud and Match – and soon to be iCloud for video, I’m sure…
Just make sure I get a September Announcement – so I win My bet.

I really hope this is wrong. I desperately want a bump in memory. Even though my contact doesn’t expire for a year, if it came in 64GB I’d probably buy it outright, day one.
