Steve Jobs is still parking in handicapped spaces at Apple, according to a new snap posted to Flickr.

Snapper Rana Sobhany spotted Jobs’ Mercedes SL55 AMG parked in a handicapped spot at the Apple campus over the weekend.

“Mercedes? Check. No license plate? Check. Handicap spot? Yep, this is Steve Jobs’ car!!!” she writes.

Jobs, of course, has a long history of parking in handicapped parking spaces at Apple. The reports go back years, and have recently been documented on Flickr.

Since 2006, Jobs’ car has been snapped in handicapped parking spaces at Apple at least five times. See the pictures after the jump.

Jobs drives a Mercedes SL55 AMG, a super fast, $130,000 sports car. Equipped with a supercharged 5.5 liter V-8 engine, the SL55 is the fastest Benz in America.

“Crack the throttle, and this posh heavyweight lunges forward like a shark that’s been invited to nibble a chunk of Britney Spears,” wrote Tony Swan in Car&Driver’s review. Curiously, it’s not the top of the line Merc: the $190,00 SL65 is. You’d expect Jobs to plump for the best.

Apple veteran Andy Hertzfled reports on his history of the Mac website, Folklore.org, that Jobs was constantly parking in the restricted spaces. “He seemed to think the blue wheelchair symbol meant the spot was reserved for the chairman,” Hertzfeld writes.

In a comment to Hertzfeld’s post, Dan Cochran, who worked at Apple, noted that one day someone converted the handicapped “wheelchair” graphic into the Mercedes logo.

“I thought it was hilarious but as I recall Steve didn’t find it particularly funny at all,” he notes.

Quipped former Apple executive, Jean-Louis Gassee, when he saw Jobs park in a restricted spot: “I never realized those spaces were for the emotionally handicapped…” (According to Wikiquote, Jean-Louis now says morally handicapped when retelling the story.)

who cares. he basically owns the parking lot and all the spaces any ways. Plus it’s not like it’s the only handicap space at Apple… And the cars next to his don’t have handicap signs hanging from their mirrors so he’s parking in the furthest one from the building letting the real handicap people park closer… But you would think that he would have his own designated parking spot to park in…

  2. macandal says:

    Why “no license plate”?

  3. Van Souza says:

The fact is that his illness allows him to apply for and receive permission to park in those lovely blue spots.

  4. Hypersky says:

I’m a lot more intrigued by the lack of licence plate than the handicapped parking.

What? I saw other people commenting in made up languages and it looked like fun…

  7. rprather says:

I also find him driving almost a year without plates interesting, almost as interesting as the last picture that was taken next month!

  8. Leander Kahney says:

    @rprather

thanks for noticing the typo. i fixed it.

This really shows what money can do and the cops don’t care, but then the whole picture is not shown, is this on private property??? If so the cops must be called and someone must come, but once they see who’s car “Oh well nothing I can do about it” is the answer you get. I have a handi cap plate on my car and I also carry a hanging notice if I should ride in a friends car. Me, I would park my old car close to his and then watch him say a few choice words… I would have it all on tape for the whole world to see….

  10. Andrew says:

i once read an article that stated jobs has no license plate because it kept getting stolen. no idea if that’s true or not, but it would make sense.

  11. dis-affected says:

    1. the SL55 AMG doesnt cost $130,000usd … maybe in yen or something, but a quick trip to mbusa.com will set things straight.

    2. steve jobs makes more $ before 6am than most people make in their lifetime :)

    3. now that we know that ‘tha steve’ likes to bling w/ no cali plates on the car how about an office/web pool to see how long before he ends up showing his pancreas to the local popo in cupertino via intense negotiations?

    4. will this change the inverted standards for hiring at the apple store? note to self, grow some dredlocks and dye them purple and invest in birkinstocks. and act like a peecee wiz instead of a thoughtfully spoken mac guy. who knows the entire product line up like the back of his hand.

    5. i still cant afford a mac. want one but oh well.

  12. Sam says:

I think Jobs discarded the car from 2006. same place, same pose

  18. Baranovsky says:

Steve, I am Russian engineer,  but mechanical Very nice car

  19. ChelsVH says:

I guess the thing I’m intrigued by is the fact that this man is no longer here on Earth, and you guys are worried about a flippin parking space. It’s so irrelevant at this point. People can be so apathetic at times.

  20. ChelsVH says:

Sorry guys, didn’t see the dates~
This is the second article like this I’ve seen…I’m a little on edge.

  21. Margaret Keller says:

Was it THIS steve jobs? http://www.chinasmack.com/wp-c
    or this one?: http://img.chinasmack.com/wp-c
He got cancer in 2004, show us some pics from pre 2004 and maybe we will be outraged but I am not going to be pissed at a cancer victim using a handicapped spot.

  22. jobs is a prick says:

on edge?  from the passing of this douche bag?  truly a visionary in terms of products – but i heard he’s a little bitch of a person

  23. pixiedust8 says:

Apathetic means you don’t care. I’m not sure what you were going for. Pathetic, maybe?

  24. too much says:

Looking into this he has been doing it for years before his illness.  Karma?

  25. ScottF says:

His illness allowed him to park in the handicapped spots- he was quite weak for some time but he still showed up to do an exceedingly demanding job when no doubt the rest of us would have retired, had we his wealth. He also moved into the downstairs bedroom of his home as he couldn’t make it up and down the stairs daily- does that make him a lazy douche? Admittedly, he was at times a tyrant to work for but he pushed people to achieve far more than they thought they were capable of, and the world is a better place for it. Many times great genius is balanced by extraordinary flaws; he’s admitted he did things he wasn’t proud of but anyone who personally knew Steve are forever grateful to have been on the planet at the same time he was. I miss him and am close to tears even writing this. Guess I’m just a pussy.

Diagnosed in 2003 and operated in 2004

  27. Ben says:

What have u done for anyone???

  28. Zonemaster says:

Jobs’ illness was not what allowed him to park in handicap spots.  Do you see a handicap license plate or hanging tag? No, because there isn’t one.

in a 2001 interview with Fortune. Jobs said that he was merely trying to avoid parking tickets. ”It’s a little game I play,” he said.

  29. Jlwing says:

one day humans will look back on how wasteful, lazy, and disgusting we are in this time. they will hate steve jobs

  30. Fartinyourdirection says:

Confirms what I always thought of Jobs.  An egotistical jackass that could care less about anyone but himself.

  31. Fkkf says:

its ok hes not parking there now.

  32. peter says:

The fact that Steve Jobs had to “show up” anywhere to get work done is the real story. Or business opportunity….fishandcrane.com

  33. Robert says:

    Remember for Jobs.

    A new VW Beetle Enthusiast.

  34. Brian_cooke83 says:

Didn’t somebody leave a note on his windshield once saying “Park Different”?
