Silver iPhone 4S Said To Be In Distribution In Australia [Rumor]

By

Is your two year contract ticking down this month? So desperate to replace that iPhone 3G that you’re having a hard time coming to terms with Apple’s repeated assertions that this year’s WWDC will be software only?

Well, here’s a sliver of hope to cling on to. Or should we say ‘silver’ of hope?

Saturate your system with iodine, but Twitter user SebastienPeek sent out an update a few hours ago, claiming that he had seen a truck full of iPhone 4S prototypes heading towards Sydney, Australia. And according to Sebastien, instead of glass rear panels, they had silver backs, like the iPod Touch.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard that the next iPhone might replace the crackable Gorilla Glass rear panel of the iPhone 4 with a more traditional, iPod style design. In fact, This Is My Next said that this was exactly the tack Apple would take with the next iPhone, citing their own insider reports.

Even so, this is a hard rumor to take at face value. While you might at first blush think that the only reason a truck of iPhone 4Ses would be heading to Sydney was if Apple intended on announcing a new iPhone at WWDC after all, but historically, there’s at least a couple of weeks between the next iPhone being revealed and it being released, so by that logic, it’s far too early for Apple to be stocking stores.

The other option is that they are really iPhone 4S test devices, destined for the field to be tested by Australian mobile carriers, but given what we know of how closely Apple keeps their iPhone prototypes secret, it’s hard to believe that some random guy would be able to catch a glimpse of a truck full of them.

My guess? Sebastien saw a truck full of Asian knockoff iPhones, and not the iPhone 4S. What do you think? Could this possibly be real?

    lol faaaaaaaake

Maybe Apple will finally be putting that LiquidMetal acquisition to use. I’d love a light iPhone I’m not terrified of dropping. Yes, I know the glass on the iPhone 4 is extremely tough, but that doesn’t stop me from sweating profusely any time my iPhone takes a fall.

So did these prototypes have retail packaging?  or were they shipped in glass boxes?
    I’m going to say fake

I hope Apple is putting LiqiuidMetal to the test. An iphone with a LiquidMetal back would be really cool.

iPhone 4 doesn’t use Gorilla Glass. It’s a different solution.

not even fake. I’m just gonna call this guy out for being a flat-out liar.

he’s probably just looking to pad his twitter follower count.

that being said, I just got done unloading a pallet full of iPhone 5 prototypes to the University Village Apple Store in Seattle. they were available in 5 different colored anodized aluminum backs. they come with iCloud as well as iRain. there werent any with iSunshine for the ones to be sold in Seattle.

yes, because they would never, EVER, print photos of the device on the lid of the packaging.

that would be so unlike Apple.

the previous tradition of using plain, brown, unmarked packaging like sex-toys will be missed. :'(

  9. notoakie says:

because the boxes said “iPhone” on the sides of them, obviously.

yes, i know it’s a weird move for apple to place the product name on the packaging exterior, but this time I’m sure they broke with tradition.

the plain, brown sex-toy styled packaging of previous generations will be missed. :'(

A rumor is a rumor, and a liar is a liar also.  A person can say that they heard this or that about a specific product, but unless they have concrete facts to back it up, I’ll take it with a grain of salt.

I know this guy, and I’m pretty sure he isn’t lying. And he said his friend and his friend’s father are the one that saw the truck. There were only 2 prototypes in the truck and not a truck full of them. And his friend tried to buy them for $1,500. Please report correctly next time http://goo.gl/m9uBY.

I can say from a couriers perspective, I distribute all apple gear across the Gold Coast in Qld and I have NEVER seen an unboxed apple product. As in, the were always shipped in a security taped brown box.

The only way of knowing whats inside is to wait and see the recipient open it or google to model numbers on the side…(which is what i do lol )
